MARKET INFORMATION

Gemval, an approved data supplier for the valuation data and pricing indexes for the Market News Service, International Trade Centre UNCTAD/WTO, Geneva, has historical data charts and graphs indicating colored gemstones, in general, have appreciated 26% in the past three years.

Another exceptional gemstone whose qualities are analogous with art and painting. The neon glow and the blue/green peacock colors are a perfect example of the 'Art Nouveau' movement at the of the beginning of the 20th. century. One of the main proponents was also the son of the founder of Tiffany. His name was Louis Comfort Tiffany and his most famous work was the stained glass window (see below) in St.John's church Baltmore. Rene Lalique's hood ornament is also an iconic Art Nouveau marker I use in the presentation.

Paraiba it is the name of a high fashion gemstone with blue to green tones of extraordinary vividness. Faceted, they scintillate a really unusual 'fire' and appear to glow intensely even when there is very little light. That is why their color is often referred to as 'electric' or 'neon'.

The weight of this collector's item is a large 4.53ct and it has an exceptionally clean VVS  (GIA type 2) clarity - the color displayed on this gem is amazing. This gem has been finished to perfection in a brilliant stepped antique cut.

As most folk are aware I do not offer many items on my site as I love the gemstones I offer and only offer those with some outstanding features. Please take the time to read my feedback in this regard.

This tourmaline comes with a gem certificate indicating it is truly copper and manganese bearing.

The photographs and movie are extreme enlargements made under sunlight or very bright lights with a macro lens so you can observe the gem's clarity, and of course, a magnification of any flaws. Monitors vary so I have little control over the color on your screen only to say these were made for a gamma corrected flat screen monitor with colors as close as possible to the original.

GIA CLARITY GRADING USED BY COWDISLEY

Different gem labs grade clarity in colored gemstones differently. Cowdisley uses the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) Colored Gemstone Grading Scale. According to the GIA – perhaps the world’s best known and trusted Gem Association and Lab, there are THREE different charts for grading colored gemstones (and Diamonds). Perhaps the one that most jewelers are familiar with is the Type 1 Gemstone Chart, which includes the grading of Diamonds. The Chart that a gemstone is graded in is dependent on the physical characteristics of the majority of a particular gemstone; such as Ruby being graded as a Type 2.. The charts and the gemstones that fit into each are as follows:

GIA Type 1 Clarity Chart

VVS Very Very Slightly Included - Minute to not detectable
VS Very Slightly Included - minor
SI1 Slightly Included - NOTICEABLE to obvious
SI2 Slightly Included 2 - OBVIOUS to noticeable
I1 Included 1 - Prominent - moderate effect on appearance or durability
I2 Included 2 - Prominent - severe effect on appearance & durability
I3 Included 3 - Prominent - severe effect on beauty, transparency & durability
Type 1 Gemstones are gemstones that are normally found to be clean.  This includes gems such as Amethyst, Aquamarine, Blue Topaz, Citrine, Kunzite, Tanzanite, Yellow Beryl, Yellow Chrysoberyl, Diamond.
